Football: Lakewood responds to comments about Long Beach Poly
Lakewood Athletic Director Chris Murphy has responded to disparaging remarks published about Long Beach Poly at Lakewoodfootball.com, a website that is not controlled by the school.
“We at Lakewood High School do not support, nor condone the irresponsible comments made regarding our upcoming competition versus Moore League rival Long Beach Poly,” Murphy said in an email.
“Our athletes, coaches, and administration have nothing but the utmost respect for Long Beach Poly and everyone involved in their athletic programs. While we recognize the intensity and fierce competitiveness that surrounds this spirited rivalry, we would never support any behavior that disparages it.
“Our entire football staff and players have been working extremely hard in preparation for the game Friday. We expect both teams to bring their ‘A’ game and look forward to hosting the entire Long Beach family at John Ford Stadium.”
