Mission Viejo and St. John Bosco are the schools trying to maintain win streaks when the football season begins next week.

Mission Viejo, which plays at Servite on Friday at 5 p.m. in a scrimmage, has a 28-game win streak. It’s going to be a big challenge, because the Diablos move up to Division 1 this season.

But they have a strong team and have added quarterback Matthew McDonald from Mater Dei to take over for Brock Johnson.

St. John Bosco has a 21-game Trinity League win streak. The Braves haven’t lost a league game since 2011. The big test on the league schedule figures to be an Oct. 21 game against Santa Ana Mater Dei at Cerritos College.
