Football: Santa Margarita is on three-game win streak

Santa Margarita (7-4) wants to play the role of spoiler in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs, and the Eagles certainly have shown potential with consecutive victories over Orange Lutheran, Servite and Gardena Serra.

Next up for Santa Margarita is a Friday quarterfinal game against Trinity League rival St. John Bosco at Saddleback College.

Santa Margarita’s offensive line, led by USC-bound center Brett Neilon, has been playing very well. Senior quarterback Richard Wagner has passed for 2,061 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Junior Chad Magyar has rushed for 1,018 yards and 11 touchdowns, including 264 yards against Servite and 126 yards against Serra.

The Eagles’ improvement shows that first-year Coach Rich Fisher is making good progress.

Caden Fitch, a junior linebacker, is averaging 10 tackles a game.
