Football: Taft-Birmingham winner important to City Section playoff seedings

The West Valley League championship should be decided tonight when Birmingham plays at Taft. It’s also an important game in helping to clarify which teams will be seeded behind Narbonne in the Division I playoffs.
The competition for No. 2 behind the Gauchos is wide open.
Taft, Birmingham, Garfield, Crenshaw, Banning, South Gate, Arleta _ they’re all in the mix.
The City Section will rely primarily on MaxPreps rankings, which has Birmingham and Taft has the next-best Division I teams behind Narbonne.
It’s going to be a contrast in strategies for Birmingham and Taft. Birmingham will rely on running back Sterling Salguero. Taft will rely on quarterback Chris Duncan.
