Football: Village Christian pulls out 48-41 win over St. Genevieve

It was a wild nonleague game in the East San Fernando Valley on Saturday night, and Mark Bates pulled out a trick play from his Oaks Christian days to help Village Christian defeat St. Genevieve, 48-41.

Bates, a former Oaks Christian assistant in his first season as head coach at Village Christian, decided to go for a fake field goal with the score tied, 41-41. He used the same play that Oaks Christian used against St. Bonaventure two years ago.

Jesse Hanckel fired a 10-yard TD pass to Aiham Aboul-Hosn for the victory in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders are 2-0.
