Football: What a year and what a day for Taft alumnus
People like to make fun of all the strange happenings in the City Section and Los Angeles Unified School District, but top athletes are still being produced and what a year it has been for alumni.
It started with Malcolm Smith (Taft) being the Super Bowl MVP for the Seattle Seahawks.
This week alone, Mike Moustakas (Chatsworth) had the tie-breaking home run for the Kansas City Royals against the Angels in their 3-2 playoff win.
On Saturday, Tevin Carter (Santee) returned an interception for a touchdown to help Utah beat UCLA, 30-28
Michael Bercovici (Taft) passed for 510 yards and five touchdowns in the Coliseum, including the game-winning 46-yard Hail Mary, to lead Arizona State past USC.
Michael Thomas (Taft) had a touchdown reception for Ohio State in a win over Maryland.
Jordan Dascalo (Taft) averaged 43.2 yards on four punts for Washington State against California in a 60-59 loss.
Yes, Taft alumni had a big day on Saturday.
