Share

After a three-hour meeting, 51 schools from the Northern Area voted on Tuesday to approve a new three-league football proposal that attempts to settle once and for all what to do about St. Bonaventure and Oaks Christian. It received 31 votes to 20 for another proposal.

Beginning this fall, the Marmonte League for football only will be Oaks Christian, St. Bonaventure, Westlake and Moorpark. The Camino League will be Newbury Park, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks and Royal. The Canyon League will be Agoura, Simi Valley, Oak Park and Calabasas. After two years, relief will be given to the school that struggles most in the Marmonte under a point system, moving to the Camino League.

For nonfootball, the Marmonte League will be made up of Agoura, Calabasas, Newbury Park, Oaks Christian, Thousand Oaks and Westlake. The Camino League for nonfootball will be Camarillo, Moorpark, Oak Park, Royal and Simi Valley.

The proposal goes to the Southern Section Council on April 30 for final approval.

St. Bonaventure and Oaks Christian won an arbitration hearing against the Southern Section forcing the Northern Area to revise its leagues. Then last week, Newbury Park, Camarillo and Thousand Oaks won an appeal, requiring Tuesday’s meeeting to vote again.
