Softball: Freshman Jordyn VanHook hits home run onto Valley Circle Blvd. to give ECR win
Let’s hope someone retrieved the softball hit over the fence at El Camino Real High School on Monday afternoon, because it needs to be put into a display case.
Freshman Jordyn VanHook delivered a spectacular two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that landed onto Valley Circle Blvd. to break a 4-4 tie and give El Camino Real a 6-4 win over Granada Hills Kennedy in a City Section Division I softball quarterfinal game.
It’s the first time that a player has hit a ball over the fence during a game since El Camino Real moved home plate next to its outside basketball courts six years ago.
El Camino Real will host Port of Los Angeles in Wednesday’s semifinals. Port of L.A. defeated Chatsworth, 1-0, in eight innings. Banning defeated San Fernando, 2-1, and will play Marine League rival Carson, a 5-4 winner over Granada Hills in eight innings.
El Camino Real rallied from a 4-3 deficit after Kennedy’s Ariana Mendoza hit a two-run single in the fifth. Mendoza had two hits on the day for the Golden Cougars.
