Social networks and the 60-second news cycle have taken a lot of the luster out of the summer college football preview magazines.

Gone is the sense of anticipation as rankings and ratings are now dripped out daily on Twitter starting in May.

Phil Steele’s very comprehensive magazine doesn’t hit stores for a couple more weeks but he’s unloading sneak peeks almost by the minute.

Steele on Wednesday revealed his preseason All-American teams.

Bad local omen: Only one player each from USC and UCLA made Steele’s 24-man first team.

Trojan wide receiver Marqise Lee earned first-team offense honors while UCLA’s Anthony Barr was one of Steele’s four linebackers on defense.

Here’s the complete squad:

The Pac 12 placed seven total players on Steele’s first team, surprisingly as many as the mighty Southeastern Conference.

Joining Lee and Barr from the Pac 12 are De’Anthony Thomas (Steele lists him at RB, Oregon), Austin Seferian-Jenkins (TE, Washington), David Yankey (G, Stanford), Will Sutton (DT, Arizona State) and Ed Reynolds (S, Stanford).

Leading Steele’s offense, no surprise, is Texas A&M; quarterback Johnny Manziel, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner as a freshman.

The defense is led by, no surprise either, South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
