Baseball: Santa Monica wins, 1-0, despite no-hitter by opposing pitcher
Santa Monica Coach Kurt Schwengel saw his team get zero hits against Culver City standout pitcher Jay Sterner on Tuesday. And still win.
“We executed,” he said.
With Alex Gironda striking out 12, Santa Monica was able to defeat Culver City, 1-0, to clinch the Ocean League championship.
Sterner didn’t allow a hit, but he gave up a run in the fifth after a leadoff walk, a sacrifice, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly by Gary Dixon.
Santa Monica is 24-4 and 9-0.
