For track star, it’s one for all, all for win

For the second year running, the best small high school girls’ track team in Texas, using the smallest roster possible, is named Bonnie Richardson.

At tiny Rochelle High, with an enrollment of 14, Richardson is the entire girls’ track team. And Saturday, she successfully defended Rochelle’s 2008 Class A state title by single-handedly outscoring 56 other schools.

Richardson won four individual medals in five events: gold in the long jump and high jump, silver in the discus and bronze in the 200-meter run. She also took fourth in the 100 meters.

Of note: Rochelle did not enter any relays.

With his perpetually rumpled appearance, hoarse voice and hyper personality, Orlando Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy has lent a fascinating presence to this year’s NBA playoffs.

“Here’s why Stan Van Gundy has become such a cult figure,” writes Dan Daly of the Washington Times. “Because 99.9% of the guys in America have had a gym teacher who looked exactly like him.

“Every time I see the guy, I want to start doing jumping jacks.”

Intercepting Twitter

Twitter has become a staple in American culture, with thousands of “followers” tracking the most mundane tasks of celebrities and sports stars.

But the Manning brothers want to get a message out. Sorry fans, but neither of them use Twitter.

According to the New York Daily News, 10,848 people were following a fake account under Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning’s name, and 17,084 more were following a fake account under New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning’s name.

“I haven’t gotten hurt by it,” Eli Manning said. “But it was important for Peyton and I to get it out there that we’re not on Twitter. We won’t be using it. So if anybody gets a message saying it’s from Eli or Peyton, it’s not us.”
