San Diego Prep Basketball : Kearny Meets Mission Bay in City West Action

Kearny and Mission Bay high schools entered this week tied for first place in the City Western League with 3-0 records. However, going into their game tonight at Mission Bay (7:45), Kearny is the only one still undefeated.

Both teams struggled against their league opponents on Wednesday, but the result was a Kearny win and a Mission Bay loss.

Kearny (4-0, 13-5) trailed La Jolla for most of three quarters before rallying to win, 52-44. La Jolla (1-3, 5-8) led, 28-21, at halftime, but the Komets came back to lead, 39-38, after three quarters.

In dominating the fourth period, Kearny resembled the team that is ranked among the county’s best. Brad Milhoan led Kearny with 25 points, making seven of nine field goal attempts. Milhoan (6-foot 4-inches) is fifth in the county in scoring, averaging 20.6.

Mission Bay’s (3-1, 11-5) rally against University fell a point short.

University (3-1, 11-8) led, 14-12, after the first quarter and was ahead at halftime, 29-26. Mission Bay came back to take the lead in the fourth quarter, but James Wilson’s field goal with 2:30 remaining gave the Dons the lead for good, and University won, 60-59. Mission Bay’s Mike Rogers (5-11) scored 20 points and John Cheatham added 19 in the losing effort.
