Preps TRACK : Kennedy Takes Over First Place

Mike Pringle, Clyde Smith and Boris Guarie won individual events and participated on two winning relay teams as Kennedy High took over first place in the West Valley League by beating Birmingham, 75-52, at the losers’ track Thursday.

Kennedy is 3-0, and Birmingham is 2-1 for the season.

Pringle won the 100 meters in a time of 10.8, followed by Smith in 10.9. Pringle won the long jump later with 22-10. Smith came back to take the 200 meters in 22.3. Guarie won the 400 in 51.7. All three participated on the 400- and 1600-meter relays.

The top race was the 800 with Brimingham’s Chris MacDonald (1:59.4) edging Fred Kober (1:59.8) of Kennedy.

Kennedy’s Hebert Saravia took a double in the distance events with 4:28.9 in the 1600 and a 9:50.6 in the 3200. Andrew Cumo won the high jump at 6-4.

Alemany 83, Crespi 44

Louie Castaneda of Alemany upset Jeff Jacobs in the mile in 4:43.1. Jacobs, one of the top runners in the Southern Section, returned for an easy win in the two mile in 10:26.4 as winds hampered the times.

Scoop Augustus won three events for Alemany. He won the 100 in 11.1, the 200 in 22.9 and the long jump at 19-11.

Saugus 88, Canyon 43

Roy Bradshaw won three events and ran a leg on the winning 440 relay as host Saugus (7-1) beat Canyon.

Bradshaw won the high hurdles in 14.8, the intermediates in 42.9 and the long jump at 20-5.
