Goals by Chico Borja and Mark Peterson, the latter with 1:40 left in the game, gave the United States national soccer team a 2-1 victory over Trinidad & Tobago in a World Cup qualifying match before a Busch Stadium crowd of 15,823 at St. Louis Wednesday night.
The win moved the United States into second place behind Costa Rica in the three-nation qualifying group. The U.S. team meets Trinidad & Tobago again Sunday at 2 p.m. at El Camino College in Torrance, then plays a two-game series against Costa Rica.
The winner of the group advances to meet Canada and Honduras in a final round-robin qualifying series, with the winner of that group going to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
