AMERICAN LEGION : Woodland Hills Plays Burbank in Semifinals

Burbank and Woodland Hills (West) advanced Friday in the American Legion District 20 playoffs at Birmingham High and will meet today at 11 a.m. in the semifinals.

Today’s winner will play for the championship Sunday against Reseda and will be guaranteed one of two District 20 berths in the 6th Area Playoffs, Thursday-Sunday next week at Cal State Northridge.

Burbank and Woodland Hills (West) have one loss in the double-elimination tournament and the survivor will have to beat undefeated Reseda twice to win the district title. Reseda already has earned a spot in the area playoffs.

Robbie Scott had four hits, four runs batted in and pitched 5 innings to earn the victory as Burbank beat North Hollywood, 19-12.

Burbank had 24 hits, seven in a six-run, fourth-inning rally.

Chris Latta and Mitch Ross helped Scott lead the Burbank offense. Latta had four hits and four RBIs. Ross had three hits and three RBIs.

Glenn Raasch hit a three-run home run for North Hollywood.

Woodland Hills (West) took advantage of 12 walks and three hit batters to beat Reseda-Cleveland, 10-6.

Joe Ferrone had three hits, while Craig Brink, Rob Baumgarner and Scott Campbell each had two RBIs for the winners.

Dennis Vigo pitched 6 innings to earn the win. Brien Pogue picked up the save.

Jim Miko hit a home run to lead off the game for Reseda-Cleveland.
