Shawn Halloran threw two touchdown passes and Troy Stradford ran for 127 yards Saturday as Boston College bounced back from a season-opening defeat to outlast Temple, 28-25, at Boston.

The Eagles (1-1) lost the Kickoff Game to Brigham Young University last week.

Boston College fell behind, 7-0, when Temple (0-1) took the opening kickoff and drove 87 yards with quarterback Lee Saltz scoring on a three-yard bootleg.

The Eagles had a 9-7 lead at halftime on Tim George’s 26-yard field goal and Kevin Bell’s 14-yard scoring run, before breaking it open on Halloran’s touchdown passes early in the third period.

The Eagles went ahead, 28-10, early in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run by John Mihalik.

Saltz ran for a one-yard touchdown and threw 11 yards to Chris Chambers to bring the Owls close in the final quarter.

West Virginia 52, Louisville 13--John Talley threw for three touchdowns, and John Holifield rushed for 177 yards and three scores at Morgantown, W.Va., as the Mountaineers spoiled Howard Schnellenberger’s coaching debut with the Cardinals.

Schnellenberger returned to college football after a one-year absence. Two seasons ago, he guided Miami (Fla.) to the national title.

Talley completed 13 of 17 passes for 166 yards and touchdowns of 6 yards to Gary Basil, 45 yards to Grantis Bell and 35 yards to Calvin Phillips as the Mountaineers led, 35-7, at halftime.
