Southern Section, City Volleyball Champions Meet in Quarterfinals

Southern Section 5-A girls’ volleyball champion Manhattan Beach Mira Costa will play host to City 4-A champion Palisades in the quarterfinals of the State High School Division I volleyball championships tonight at 7:30.

Mira Costa, with a record of 21-0, is ranked No. 1 in the nation by Volleyball Monthly magazine. Palisades has won four straight City 4-A titles.

Newport Harbor, runner-up in the 5-A, will play at Southern Section 4-A champion Los Angeles Marlborough at 7:30 p.m. in another Division I quarterfinal. The winner of each match advances to the semifinals Tuesday against teams from Northern California.

In Division II, undefeated Ojai Nordhoff will travel to Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World for a semifinal match. In Division III, Anaheim Southern California Christian will play host to a semifinal match against San Diego Francis Parker. Both matches start at 7:30 p.m., and the winner of each advances to the finals on Dec. 7.
