Cal Lutheran 75, Fresno Pacific 72--After trailing by four points at halftime, Cal Lutheran University shot 72% from the field in the second half for the upset in a NAIA District III game Tuesday at Fresno.

The Kingsmen surge was led by freshman guard Steve Delaveaga, who scored 14 of his team-high 20 points in the second half.

Cal Lutheran (2-4 in district and 5-15 overall), which held Fresno Pacific (9-11, 3-3) to 46% shooting, was led defensively by Lionel Boyce, who grabbed seven rebounds in the final 20 minutes.

Pat Gibbs, who scored 16 for the Kingsmen, limited Fresno Pacific’s high scorer, Alvin Stewart, to eight points in the second half. Gibbs guarded Stewart in Cal Lutheran’s man-to-man defense.

Cal Lutheran, which has won two straight, out-rebounded Fresno Pacific, 31-28.

Cal Lutheran (women) 73, Fresno Pacific 70--Senior guard Joni Thompson hit two free throws with eight seconds left to push the Regals past Fresno Pacific at home in an NAIA District III game.

Thompson had a team-high 18 points, and teammate Gloria Phillipps had 17 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Fresno Pacific’s Paula Friesen scored a game-high 23 as the Lady Sunbirds fell to 6-2, 15-5 overall.

Cal Lutheran is 3-6, 10-8 overall.
