Three high school seniors have signed national letters of intent to play volleyball at UC Irvine next season.

Carolyn Janisch, Sue Olszewski and Alison Wood will give the Anteaters much needed height on the front line.

Janisch, a 5-foot 11-inch outside hitter, was a first-team All-CIF 4-A selection at Long Beach Wilson and a 1985 U.S. Volleyball Assn. Junior All-American. She was also a member of the 1985 USA Pacific Rim Team and earned the Principal’s Trophy for outstanding academics and athletics at Wilson.

Olszewski, a 5-11 middle blocker, earned All-CIF 3-A honors at Rim of the World. She was Most Valuable Player of the Sunkist League.

Wood, a 6-0 middle blocker and outside hitter, was an All-Bay League player at Rolling Hills.

“An area of weakness on our team last year was offense,” UCI Coach Mike Puritz said. “We did not match up well, partly due to size. These three players will give us added strength at the net.”
