CSUN Women Second in Gymnastics Meet

The Cal State Northridge women’s gymnastic team placed second Thursday night against a strong field in a tri-meet at Northern Colorado College in Greeley.

Northern Colorado, which is favored to win the NCAA Division II Central Regionals, won with 173.95 points. The Lady Matadors finished with a season-high 172.0 points and Southwestern Texas, ranked 15th, was third.

CSUN’s Monica Mayes, a junior, had her season bests to win the vault (9.25) and the all-around (34.85) events. Caroline Baker won the uneven bars with a season-best 9.0, and Stacy Baker had her season best (33.85) to take fourth in the all-around.

“Improving by that much big advantage for us. We need to keep up our scores to qualify for nationals. I was pleased but we have room to improve,” CSUN Coach Susan Rouse said.
