Southern Section Softball Roundup : El Dorado Holds On to Beat Dos Pueblos, 1-0, to Advance
El Dorado High School scored a run in the first inning and pitcher Suzi Bradich (21-5) made it stand as the Golden Hawks defeated Dos Pueblos, 1-0, in Southern Section 4-A softball action in Placentia.
Senior catcher Kris Glomboske led of the bottom of the first with a single and scored on a squeeze bunt by Jill Matyuch.
Glomboske was sacrificed to second by Kelly Weirich and went to third on a single by Keri Lucas before scoring on Matyuch’s bunt.
The Golden Hawks (21-5) play top-seeded Fountain Valley Thursday in the quarterfinals.
In other quarterfinal action:
Fountain Valley 5, Mater Dei 2--Patti Taylor threw a no-hitter to lead the the No. 1-seeded Barons (23-4) in Santa Ana. The Monarchs finished 19-7-1.
Downey 1, Kennedy 0--The Vikings scored when the Fighting Irish committed two errors and threw a wild pitch in the second inning at Downey. Chris Clammer (12-3) pitched a three-hitter and had five strikeouts but took the loss for Kennedy (23-7).
Edison 1, Millikan 0--The Chargers (24-5) advance to the semifinals against Downey.
