The University of Tennessee’s investigation into its athletic program turned up six possible NCAA rules violations and led to the suspension of kicker Carlos Reveiz and linebacker Kelly Ziegler from the Volunteer football team.

The university’s interim report, copies of which have been shared with the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA, also recommended a public reprimand for football Coach Johnny Majors for not reporting at least two violations.

The investigation found that Majors knew that then-quarterback Tony Robinson had been loaned a car by booster Robert Overholt for 1984 and 1985 but had not reported the incident to then-athletic director Bob Woodruff. The reprimand for Majors, which has to be approved by university President Ed Boling, would be the first for a university employee.

Tennessee said it will file a petition immediately with the NCAA, requesting that the eligibility of Ziegler and Reveiz be reinstated for the 1986 season, said Phil Scheurer, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs.

He said the two were suspended during the investigation for reserving game passes for people other than relatives or students.
