The City Section 4-A girls’ softball final will match three-time champion El Camino Real against West Valley League rival Canoga Park.

El Camino Real, led by sophomore right-hander Beth Silverman, easily defeated Sylmar, 5-0, Wednesday. Silverman, pitching a five-hitter, kept her perfect record intact (18-0) and put El Camino in line for its fourth straight City 4-A title.

The result extended El Camino’s state-record winning streak to 54 games and ended Sylmar’s season at 14-4.

El Camino, which has outscored playoff opponents, 46-1, was also limited to five hits, including an RBI single by Silverman that scored the fifth run for the Conquistadores.

The other semifinal was somewhat closer.

Canoga Park, largely on the efforts of senior right-handed pitcher De Dow, was able to get by second-seeded Banning in 10 innings, 3-2, and improve its record to 16-3.

Dow was overpowering on the mound but was hindered by seven Hunter errors. She allowed only four hits while striking out 14 and walking none.

In the 3-A Division, South Gate easily defeated Roosevelt, 5-0, while Westchester got by Bell, 2-1.

The finals in both divisions will be played next Wednesday at South Gate Park.
