WICHITA, Kan. — Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Mike Bell testified at his federal court trial Wednesday that he didn’t purchase cocaine in the spring of 1985, contradicting earlier testimony by a federal prosecution witness.
Bell, 28, is being tried on two felony counts of using the telephone to arrange an alleged drug deal and a misdemeanor charge of attempted possession of cocaine. His twin brother, Mark Bell, who formerly played for the Seattle Seahawks and the Indianapolis Colts, faces one telephone count and a misdemeanor count of attempted possession.
The possible maximum penalty for the telephone charges is four years in prison and a $30,000 fine. The attempted possession counts carry a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
