Chiefs’ Bell Tells Court He Didn’t Buy Cocaine

Associated Press

Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Mike Bell testified at his federal court trial Wednesday that he didn’t purchase cocaine in the spring of 1985, contradicting earlier testimony by a federal prosecution witness.

Bell, 28, is being tried on two felony counts of using the telephone to arrange an alleged drug deal and a misdemeanor charge of attempted possession of cocaine. His twin brother, Mark Bell, who formerly played for the Seattle Seahawks and the Indianapolis Colts, faces one telephone count and a misdemeanor count of attempted possession.

The possible maximum penalty for the telephone charges is four years in prison and a $30,000 fine. The attempted possession counts carry a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
