Ed Graham, the head basketball coach at Orange High School the past four years, has been named basketball coach at Troy High School.

Graham said he was informed on Monday night by school officials of the appointment.

“It was something I had waited for a long time,” he said. “I’m really excited about getting this.”

He replaces Mike Williams, who resigned after leading Troy to the Freeway League championship with a 10-0 record.

Graham led Orange to a Century League championship during the 1984-85 season, when his team went 12-2. This season, the Panthers were fourth in league with an 8-6 record, 13-12 overall.

“I really hate to leave Orange,” Graham said. “But Troy has so much to offer that I couldn’t pass this opportunity up.”

Troy is part of the Fullerton Union School District, which reportedly has the highest pay scales for teachers in Orange County.

“I really don’t know that much about the state of team right now,” Graham said. “Things have been a little chaotic the past few weeks. But I know I’m moving into a good situation.”

Williams, who resigned to pursue business interests, was enthusiastic about Graham. “I think it’s a great choice,” Williams said. “I think his philosophy and style will fit right in at Troy. He’ll have his team do whatever is necessary to win. Ed’s an excellent teacher of the game.”
