Quincy Watts of state champion Taft High and Kelley Peacock of Van Nuys were selected as the top track athletes in the City Section by the All-Los Angeles Board of Athletics, a panel of sportswriters who covered high school sports during the 1985-1986 school year.

Watts, only a sophomore, won the 200 meters, was second in the 100-meters and anchored the second-place 400-meter relay team as Taft became the first Valley-area boys team to win the state title in 68 years. Peacock, a senior, won three events at the City championships and finished second in the long jump and third in the 100-meter hurdles at the state meet.

Lauren Goldstine of the Las Virgenes Comets track club was one of four team members to win titles at the California/Nevada Region 8 Championships held earlier this month at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif. The meet, in which more than 1,600 athletes competed, was sanctioned by The Athletics Congress.

Goldstine won championships in the midget girls division (10-11) in the 100-meter dash, in a time of 12.89, and the 400-meters in 1:01.3.

Also winning titles for Las Virgenes was Deena Drossin, who won the 3,000 meters in the youth girls division (12-13); Bryan Dameworth won the 5,000 meters in the intermediate boys division; and Matthew Thomson won the 2,000-meter steeplechase in the young men’s division (17-18).

Goldstine has qualified for the TAC national championships in Chicago on Friday. Drossin will compete in San Jose in the national age group championships.

Cal State Northridge will offer sports instructions camps this summer in basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, soccer, baseball, softball and tennis. Coach Terry Craven and his Northridge baseball staff will conduct the first of the camps from June 30 to July 5 for grades four to seven. A second baseball camp, which will run July 7-11, is designed for grades eight to 12.

A benefit golf tournament for the Boys and Girls Club of America, beginning Thursday in Pacoima, will be held Sunday at El Cariso Golf Club in Sylmar. The tournament has been dedicated to former club officer Jerry Littlefield, who passed away recently. The entry fee is $40. El Cariso club pro Hector Garcia will provide free lessons.
