Southern Section Water Polo : La Quinta Goes Into Overtime to Beat Laguna Hills
La Quinta High School scored three goals in overtime to defeat Laguna Hills, 17-15, in a first-round Southern Section 2-A water polo match Wednesday at Laguna Hills.
The score was tied 14-14 at the end of regulation play. David Lee, Randy Toma and Shane Corbett scored for La Quinta in overtime.
La Quinta (14-9) meets South Pasadena Friday afternoon at Golden West in the second round.
In other 2-A first-round matches:
Costa Mesa 14, Brea-Olinda 5--Shane Coons scored eight goals to lead the top-seeded Mustangs (17-10) at Costa Mesa.
Valencia 9, Rolling Hills 7--Kurt Randolph scored 3 goals and goalie Andy Wisniewski recorded 10 saves for the Tigers at Valencia.
In 3-A first-round play:
Mission Viejo 14, Fontana 6--Greg Brown and Chris Berry scored four goals apiece to lead the Diablos at Fontana.
