Canyon 24, Villa Park 7--Canyon High School almost got more than it bargained for as the Commanches had to come from behind to defeat stubborn Villa Park in Fred Kelly Stadium at Orange.
Ray Schull rushed for 84 yards and scored 2 touchdowns as Canyon (3-2, 5-5) scored 21 points in the second half to break the game open.
Dareld Karns ran up the middle for three yards to score the Comanches’ first touchdown and give them a 10-7 lead with 8:09 left in the third quarter.
Schull then scored his two touchdowns, both one-yard runs in the fourth quarter. Canyon had 245 yards rushing.
For the third week in a row, Canyon’s defense held its opponent to one touchdown or less as the Spartans were limited to 199 yards total offense.
