Glendale College quarterback Rob Huffman was named Western State Conference player of the year and the Vaqueros’ Jim Sartoris was named coach of the year by conference coaches.

Glendale, rated the No. 1 junior college team in the nation by USA Today, had 13 players named to the all-conference first team.

The Vaqueros had seven selections on offense: Huffman, center Dave Ewing, tackle Bill Schultz, guard Johann Konrad, wide receiver Rocky Palamara, running back Gene Harlin and kicker Sal Velasco.

Nose guard John Bavaro, tackle Steve Calabro, linebacker Tommy Lopez, cornerback Chris Hale, safety Kevin Henderson and punter-defensive back Jay Carballo were named to the defense.

Occidental College volleyball player Cheryl Burditt was voted first-team all-conference by coaches in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Burditt, a senior, was a setter for the Tigers, who finished 9-22.
