Pacifica Tournament : Loara Advances in Overtime, 53-51

Paul Plettinck hit a 15-foot jump shot with 30 seconds left in overtime to give Loara High School a 53-51 victory over Cantwell Wednesday in the opening round of the Pacifica basketball tournament at Pacifica High School.

Loara held the ball in the overtime until Plettinck scored the only basket of the extra session. Plettinck led all scorers with 14 points. Rich Hagerman added 13 and Todd Eaton 11 for the Saxons.

Ray Walker led Cantwell with 13 points. Art Ramos and Sinoe Elisaldez scored 10 points each. Loara will play Pacifica in the semifinals Friday.

In other tournament games:

Pacifica 74, Villa Park 55--Allan Bruce scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Mariners led by 11 at the half and 22 at the start of the fourth quarter. Mike Short added another 13 to the winning effort.

Roger Branstine led Villa Park with 10 points.

Los Amigos 66, Troy 60--Jim McGee scored 16 points, John Jenkins had 15 and Gene Altamizano added 12 for the Lobos’ first-round victory and a chance to meet Steveston of Richmond, British Columbia in the other semifinal game.

Mark Rudometron and Brad Deloof shared scoring honors for the Warriors with 12 each.

Los Amigos is 7-5, Troy is 7-4.

Steveston 48, Savanna 36--Steveston, trailing by a point at halftime, opened a three-point lead at the end of the third quarter and then increased it in the final period.

Bob Rivera had 12 points for the Rebels (2-6). Steveston (7-7) was paced by Darrel Grosul with 17 points and Sean Berda with 13.
