BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS : Burbank, Chandler Stop Santiago, 77-40

Burbank center Bryan Chandler had 16 points and 14 rebounds, and the Bulldog defense did not allow a point in the first 18 minutes en route to a 77-40 victory over Santiago in the consolation semifinal of the Santiago tournament on Friday.

Burbank (8-4) led, 17-3, at the end of the first quarter and, 34-5, at halftime. Santiago (3-7) scored its first field goal of the game with six minutes left in the third quarter.

Guard Abo Velasco had nine points, eight assists and five steals for Burbank. Chris Buck added 14 points for Burbank. Bill Cano had 12.

Burbank will play Magnolia today in the consolation championship at 5 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Canyon 81, Camp Kilpatrick 59--Jeff White scored 16 points as Canyon (11-3) raced to a 22-2 lead in the first six minutes of a nonleague game at Hart. Canyon’s Larry Allbritton scored 14 of his 15 points in the first half, and Greg Paskwietz had 10 assists in 13 minutes. Cedrick Estes led Camp Kilpatrick (6-5) with 21 points.

Harvard 64, Agoura 56--Harvard center Mike Lowe scored a game-high 22 points and had 14 rebounds for the Saracens (4-3) in a nonleague game at Harvard. Guard Steve Green added 18 points and guard Andy Bell had 16 for Harvard.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Thousand Oaks 54, Channel Islands 51--Junior Kris Pederson made two free throws with 19 seconds left to break a 51-51 tie, and stole the ball with six seconds remaining to clinch the win for Thousand Oaks (6-7). Pederson, who had a game-high 17 points, was fouled after the steal and made a free throw with no time left. Nancy Tauau led Channel Islands with 16 points. It was the first Marmonte League game for both teams.
