ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASKETBALL : Girls’ Roundup : Warriors Advance to Final

Rande Mahoney scored 18 points to lead Woodbridge High School to a 52-44 semifinal victory over Capistrano Valley in the Costa Mesa girls’ basketball tournament Friday night at Costa Mesa High School.

Gilly Powl scored 14 points for the Warriors, who play Palos Verdes tonight at 8 for the championship.

Palos Verdes defeated Schurr, 54-48, in the other semifinal.

Carlyin Combs scored 12 points and Shelly Zierhut 10 for Capistrano Valley. The Cougars play Schurr at 6:20 for third place.

In other Costa Mesa Tournament play:

Costa Mesa 48, South Torrance 47--Silke Schwarz (nine points) made two free throws with 30 seconds left to put the Mustangs ahead, 48-45.

Stephanie Swanson (12 points) led Costa Mesa, which plays Ocean View in the consolation championship at 4:40 p.m. today.

Rocelle Lightner scored 29 for South Torrance.

Ocean View 59, Canyon 43--Forward Cindy Hurzeler scored 20 points, guard Dalene Lawson 14 and center Erin Lunder 10 for Ocean View.

Hurzeler was 8 for 13 from the field for the Seahawks (6-6).

Tustin 55, Estancia 44--Tricia Andres scored 16 points and was 8 for 12 from the field as the Tillers won a consolation semifinal.

Tustin (9-4) had only seven turnovers.

In the Cypress Tournament:

Westminster 48, Ganesha 33--Devon Akita scored 22 points for the Lions, who play Riverside Poly for the consolation championship today at 4:30 p.m.

In the Orange Glen Tournament:

Laguna Beach 44, El Camino 36--Felicia Chalmers scored 15 points and Liz Stal scored 7 points and had 14 rebounds to lead the Artists (4-3) in a consolation semifinal game.

Villa Park 43, Oceanside 41--The victory advances the Spartans to the consolation championship against Laguna Beach.
