Orange County Prep Soccer : Brea Defeats Orange in a Rough Match

The Brea-Olinda High School boys’ soccer team defeated Orange, 1-0, Saturday at Brea in a physical nonleague game that resulted in eight yellow cards and one red card.

Brea-Olinda’s Steve Teran deflected a pass by Billy Cruz to score the winning goal five minutes into the second half.

Each team received four yellow card warnings, and Brea-Olinda was given a red card. Joe Morales of Orange and Robert Hillard of Brea were ejected in the second half for fighting.

“It was a very physical game and our players fought back hard in the second half,” said Manny Toledo, Brea coach. “It was a good way for us to finish our nonleague schedule.”

Brea is 6-4-1; Orange is 8-3.

Servite 5, St. Paul 1--Rhett Harty scored two goals to lead the Friars to a 5-1 victory over the Swordsmen in an Angelus League game Saturday at Anaheim.

Harty scored the game’s first goal with five minutes remaining in the first half. Two minutes later, the Swordsmen tied the score at 1-1.

Scott Dieugenio scored the winning goal for the Friars (1-2, 4-7) 13 minutes into the second half as Servite scored four straight goals in the second half.

Villa Park 1, Kennedy 0--The Spartans (10-0-1) remained undefeated as Richard Skinner deflected an Aaron Heichman pass into the goal midway through the second half in the nonleague game at Villa Park.

In girls’ action:

Mater Dei 3, Bishop Montgomery 1--Amy Sissung and Stephanie Duran each scored in the opening 10 minutes to lead the Monarchs to the victory over the defending Southern Section 3-A champions in Angelus League play at Torrance. Mater Dei is 2-0 and 8-4-2.
