Site--Sports Arena.

Time--2:30 p.m.

Records--La Jolla 17-5; San Pasqual 20-5.

Last meeting--La Jolla, 43-36 (December).

La Jolla update--The Vikings, undefeated (10-0) in the City Western League, had four players receive all-league honors, including Nicole Anderson, player of the year. Forward Vera Littleton was named to the first team and center Michelle Lolly and guard Stacey Datnow were selected to the second team. In the playoffs, La Jolla defeated San Marcos, 57-37, and Lincoln, 46-44, despite 29 turnovers. Anderson, a 5-foot 3-inch sophomore, averaged 21.9 points this season. She usually handles the ball. Against Lincoln, La Jolla looked confused on offense when Anderson didn’t have the ball. Defensively, La Jolla will press, then fall back into a man-to-man or 2-1-2 zone. Datnow, the off guard, is a good outside shooter.

San Pasqual update--The Eagles beat Crawford in the semifinals, 56-51. Crawford had lost to only Point Loma this season. San Pasqual uses a 1-3-1 zone defense to compensate for its lack of height. Of the six regulars, only 5-9 Cari Young is taller than 5-7. Guard Julie Doria, the Avocado League player of the year, leads the team in assists, steals and blocked shots. All-league forward Nicole Rothey is the leading scorer (18.4) and rebounder (8.0). Young averages 7.9 rebounds and the zone helps keep her out of trouble.

Key to the game--For San Pasqual, it’s stopping Anderson, or at least neutralizing her with Doria. Anderson is La Jolla’s only real ballhandler and top scorer. La Jolla must concentrate on stopping Rothey along the baseline, using a combination of zone defenses to stop San Pasqual inside. Because both teams use only six players, fouls could be a factor.
