ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASEBALL : Roundup : Orange Wins on Holloway’s Home Run

Mike Holloway hit a home run with one out in the eighth inning to give Orange High School a 4-3 Pacific Coast League victory Friday at Trabuco Hills.

The Mustangs (7-4, 9-6-1) scored three runs in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead, but Orange came back with a run in the sixth and a run on Paul Vinci’s RBI-single in the seventh to tie. First-place Orange is 9-2, 15-6.

In other Pacific Coast League games:

Costa Mesa 7, Laguna Beach 5-The Mustangs scored five runs in the first inning on four hits and three walks and never trailed at Laguna Beach. Mike McAleer and Paul Davis each had two hits and an RBI for Costa Mesa (3-8, 5-15).

Woodbridge 5, Laguna Hills 4--Paul Rodriguez went 2 for 3 and drove in the winning run in the sixth inning for the Warriors at Laguna Hills. Eric Brougher (1-0) allowed two hits and a two-run home run and Mike Sorensen went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Woodbridge (7-4, 12-9).

In the Angelus League:

Servite 12, Bishop Montgomery 2--Michael Robertson was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, a single, four RBIs and two runs scored and Tom Szymanski was 2 for 2 with four runs scored at Bishop Montgomery. Winning pitcher Craig Barkley (6-0) allowed three hits over four innings and reliever Andy Croghan didn’t allow a hit.

In the Century League:

Canyon 6, El Modena 3--John Cummings pitched the first four innings to earn the win, and David Bladow pitched the final three for the save, as the Comanches (7-4, 14-6) defeated the Vanguards (2-9, 5-13) at El Modena.

Villa Park 7, Santa Ana Valley 2--Tony Inga was 2 for 2 with three RBIs for the league-leading Spartans (8-3, 14-8) at home. Jerry Aschoff (2-1) was the winning pitcher. Santa Ana Valley is 5-6, 8-13.

In the Collegiate League:

Walden 6, St. Margaret’s 0--Bob Bridges (5-1) gave up four hits and struck out three in six innings to shut out St. Margaret’s at Boysen Park in Anaheim. Bridges went 3 for 3 with a double and a triple.

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 2, Sonora 1--The Raiders had the tying run on second with two out in the seventh, but Fullerton (8-3, 14-6) held on to win at Sonora. Carlos Martinez (4-0) was the winning pitcher.

La Habra 10, Troy 5--John Robertson had a two-run home run in the first inning to lead the Highlanders at Troy. La Habra (6-5, 9-8) scored seven runs in the second inning, two coming on a single by Jamie Hutcherson. Troy is 9-2, 15-5.

Sunny Hills 4, Buena Park 3--Tim Imperiali hit a single to drive in the winning run in the seventh inning at Sunny Hills (6-5). Trevor Painton, who held the Coyotes (0-11) scoreless in the final two innings, earned the victory.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 15, Capistrano Valley Christian 3--Chris Hunt went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs and Doug Siperly went 3 for 5 with a double and four runs to lead the Lancers at Oso Park in Mission Viejo. Scot Wire (8-1) gave up five hits and struck out five.

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 2, Western 0--Sophomore Rich Browning (1-4) pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout at Glover Stadium and Joey Young hit a first-inning home run as the Colonists (1-10, 3-17) got their first league victory. Western is 6-5, 14-7-1.

Magnolia 12, Valencia 5--Victor Banuelos went 4 for 5 with three RBIs to lead the Sentinels (3-7-1, 6-12-1) to the upset over the first-place Tigers (8-3, 12-7) at Magnolia. Marty Neff pitched a complete game and hit a home run for the Sentinels.

Savanna 2, Brea-Olinda 1 (10 innings)--Jim Young, who had doubled and gone to third on an infield out, scored the winning run on an error in the 10th inning as the Rebels won at Brea. Robert Lee earned a complete-game victory, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out 14. In the Sea View League:

Saddleback 7, Newport Harbor 6--The Roadrunners trailed, 6-2, after four innings, but came back to win, scoring three runs in the seventh at Saddleback. Sean Therien, who was the winning pitcher, singled home the tying and winning runs.

University 10, Corona del Mar 2--Toby Foreman pitched a complete-game four hitter, striking out eight and walking two, as University won at home. Foreman (2-5) also had a double, a single and two RBIs.

Tustin 7, Estancia 1--Chris Floth (8-1) pitched a complete-game three-hitter and was 2 for 2 as Tustin (8-3, 12-8) won at Estancia. The Eagles are 5-6, 8-13.
