San Diego High School Baseball : Hilltop Climbs to the Top With 5-2 Win

Hilltop High School’s baseball team beat Bonita Vista, 5-2, Tuesday at Chula Vista to take over first place in the Metro-Mesa League.

Eric Russell started and struggled through 2 innings. Robert DePerro shut down the Barons the rest of the way for Hilltop (6-2, 9-7).

Bonita Vista, defending Mesa League champion, is 2-6 and 6-14.

In other Metro Conference games:

Sweetwater 2, Chula Vista 1 (9 innings)--Esteban Acosta pitched a complete game and Oscar Baltazar drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Sweetwater (2-5, 6-12) knocked Chula Vista (5-2, 12-6) out of first place.

Castle Park 7, Coronado 2 (8 innings)--Victor Amaya’s two-run double keyed a five-run eighth inning for Castle Park at Coronado. Henry Monreal pitched a five-hitter for Castle Park (4-3, 15-6). Coronado, the Metro-South Bay leader, is 6-2 and 13-6.

Mar Vista 5, Marian 2--Todd Hebel pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 as Mar Vista (4-4, 11-7-2) beat Marian (3-4, 5-11) at Mar Vista.

AVOCADO LEAGUE

San Pasqual 8, Carlsbad 3--Jay Jures had two RBIs and Kevin Herde hit a solo home run at San Pasqual. Darren Dunn struck out four for San Pasqual (5-3, 12-8). Carlsbad is 6-2 and 10-9.

Oceanside 6, Ramona 5--Kip Sosa scored the winning run on an error in the top of the seventh as Oceanside (3-4, 5-12) rallied from a 5-0 deficit at Ramona. Ramona is 2-6 and 2-12-2.

Escondido 12, San Marcos 10--Jay Kent’s pinch-hit, two-run double snapped a 10-10 tie in the fifth as Escondido (6-2, 9-10) moved into a first-place tie with Carlsbad by beating San Marcos (5-3, 10-10) at San Marcos.

PALOMAR LEAGUE

Fallbrook 8, San Dieguito 4--Scott Hainline hit a two-run home run and Ty Barksdale had two RBIs to lead Fallbrook (5-3, 15-6) at home. Mark Ringkamp (7-2) struck out eight in the victory. San Dieguito (1-6, 7-9) took a 2-0 lead on Matt Moniak’s two-run homer in the first.
