Share

REPRESENTATIVES OF the 62 leagues in the Southern Section will vote Thursday on whether to repeal three rules regarding outside competition by athletes.

Item 1: Rule 2712 of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Constitution reads: “A member of a high school soccer team may not, during his or her season of sport, compete for an outside team in the sport of soccer.”

Item 2: Rule 2712.1 allows no more than five players from a Southern Section school to participate at one time on a club team.

Item 3: A combination of rules 1814.1 (basketball), 1914.1 (softball), 2012.1 (water polo), 2213.1 (volleyball) and 2413.1 (baseball), limits the number of players from a Southern Section member school who can participate at one time on a club team. Currently, basketball is allowed two players, softball four, water polo three, volleyball four and baseball four.

League representatives said they will vote the same way on all three items. A majority vote will carry the items.
