Southern Section Won’t Vote on Rule : Repeal of Soccer Restriction Mistakenly Put on Agenda

The Southern Section Council will not vote today on whether to repeal a rule prohibiting soccer players from competing on outside teams during the high school soccer season. The Times reported Wednesday there would be a vote on the issue.

An agenda produced by the Southern Section office and mailed to The Times incorrectly listed Rule 2712, which prohibits outside play during the soccer season, as one of those that would be considered for repeal.

“There was a clerical error on the part of the secretaries who prepared the agenda,” said Dean Crowley, a Southern Section administrator. “I noticed that the agenda was done incorrectly more than a week ago.”

Crowley said he did not know whether corrected copies of the agenda were mailed to the league representatives who will vote on the rules today.

Copies of the corrected agenda will be distributed at the meeting today before the vote, Crowley said.

The council will vote on whether to repeal rules limiting the number of high school teammates who may play together on non-school teams outside the season during the school year for soccer and five other sports.
