Orange County Prep Baseball : Servite Defeats St. Paul, 10-2, Remains Tied for 1st

Servite High School, which took advantage of some wild pitching to defeat St. Paul, 10-2, Saturday at St. Paul, remains in a tie with Bishop Amat for first place in the Angelus League.

Tom Szymanski was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Andy Roschman was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI and Jim Berry was 2 for 3 with a run scored as Servite (11-2, 19-4) had eight hits and received nine walks.

Andy Croghan pitched 3 innings of one-hit relief, striking out three, for the victory.

Servite will play third-place Mater Dei on Wednesday and Friday, and Bishop Amat will play two games with St. Paul. Bishop Amat has defeated Servite twice in three games this season and would be the league’s No. 1 seed in the Southern Section 4-A playoffs if the teams tied for first.

In other Angelus League play:

Mater Dei 5, Bishop Montgomery 0--Tony Pena, a sophomore right-hander, threw a two-hitter and struck out 10, and Jim Austin hit a solo home run as the Monarchs (9-4, 15-6) clinched a playoff berth.

In Sunset League play:

Marina 7, Westminster 6--Chris Craig drove in the winning run with a two-out bases-loaded single in the ninth to lead the Vikings (3-10, 10-13) at Marina. Westminster led, 6-2, before Marina tied the game with a four-run fourth inning. Second-place Westminster (7-5-1, 16-6-1) has a half-game lead over Edison.

Huntington Beach 6, Ocean View 2--Nick Davenport’s single drove in two in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie, and Rick Harvey followed with a home run to left as the Oilers (5-7-1, 12-9-1) remained in contention for a playoff berth with the upset at Huntington Beach. The Oilers are 1 1/2 games behind third-place Edison with two games left. Ocean View (11-2, 17-5) has clinched the league championship.
