Mollie Moore scattered four hits and did not allow an earned run as Thousand Oaks High defeated St. Paul, 4-1, in a Southern Section 4-A quarterfinal softball playoff game Thursday at St. Paul.

Moore (9-2), who struck out four and walked three, lost her shutout in the seventh when Thousand Oaks committed two errors.

“She was pretty much in control the whole way,” Thousand Oaks Coach Chuck Brown said. “They never really threatened until the last inning.”

This is the first time Thousand Oaks (22-8), which finished third in the Marmonte League, has made it past the second round.

Jaime Heggen gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead in the first when she tripled to score Julie Chellevold, who had reached base on an error.

Thousand Oaks increased its lead to 2-0 in the third when Chellevold scored on a wild pitch. St. Paul catcher Ann Nevarez attempted to throw out Chellevold, but her toss eluded pitcher Keri Kropke, allowing Amy Chellevold to score and give Thousand Oaks a 3-0 lead.

Amy Chellevold had two hits and scored twice.

Thousand Oaks plays Ocean View, a 1-0 winner over Los Alamitos, in the semifinals Tuesday.
