In the girls meet, Agoura freshman Deena Drossin ran an extra 300 yards but still won easily in 18:52. Freshman teammate Tiffany York placed second (19:05) as Agoura (3-0) defeated Rio Mesa, 20-38, and winless Camarillo, 20-39. Rio Mesa (1-1) defeated Camarillo, 26-29.

Drossin, 14, The Athletics Congress national age group cross-country champion in 1986, took a wrong turn during the race yet missed the course record by only 20 seconds.

“She’s running great right now,” Agoura Coach Bill Duley said. “If she hadn’t gone the wrong way, she probably would have run a minute faster.”
