Southern Section Girls’ Volleyball : Irvine Wins 3rd Title in 7 Years

Irvine High School won its third Southern Section girls’ 4-A volleyball title since 1981 by beating first-time finalist Long Beach Wilson, 15-5, 15-9, 15-1, Saturday night at Marina High in Huntington Beach.
Irvine was led by a team-high 14 kills by junior Bev Odon.
Newport Harbor came back from a two-game deficit to beat Corona del Mar of Newport Beach, 6-15, 11-15, 15-12, 15-5, 15-6, in the 5-A final, which lasted 2 1/2 hours.
In the 3-A, top-seeded San Gabriel defeated Agoura, 15-7, 14-16, 15-10, 15-10, for its first-ever volleyball title.
Thousand Oaks won its second straight 2-A title by defeating Newbury Park, 15-10, 16-14, 5-15, 15-8.
In the 1-A, Maranatha of Sierra Madre defeated Ontario Christian, 15-3, 15-6, 15-11 for its first championship.
Flintridge Sacred Heart of La Canada repeated its Small Schools championship by defeating Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, 15-7, 15-6, 9-15, 15-7.
