Top-Seeded Players Advance to Girls’ Tennis Semifinals

The top-seeded singles player and top-seeded doubles team won quarterfinal matches Wednesday to move into today’s semifinals of the San Diego Section girls’ tennis tournament at the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club.

Top-ranked Mimi Burgos of University City High School defeated sixth-seeded Beth Choate of San Pasqual, 6-2, 6-4, in singles play and will meet third-seeded Cammie Foley of Bonita Vista in the semifinals. Foley defeated seventh-seeded Zarina Galvan of Hoover, 6-2, 6-1.

Today’s other singles semifinal will feature second-seeded Laura Richards of Vista against fifth-seeded Angelica Galvaldon of Our Lady of Peace. Richards ousted unseeded Heidi D’Janolgy of San Marcos, 6-2, 6-2. Galvaldon defeated fourth-seeded Veena Prabhaker of Bonita Vista, 6-3, 6-4.

Branaca Elsberry and Lynn Coakley, the top-seeded doubles team from Bishop’s, moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over eighth-seeded Hana Okhawa and Micki Albrecht of La Jolla.

Elsberry and Coakley will meet the third-seeded team of Kim Khoury and Paige Patridge of La Jolla. Khoury and Patridge beat fifth-seeded Gini Pino and Jennifer Gannon from San Pasqual, 6-2, 6-1.
