Brown of Granada Hills to Forgo Basketball This Season

Sean Brown, a Times All-Valley tight end who also started for the Granada Hills High baseball and basketball teams last season, will skip basketball this season in order to concentrate on baseball and his studies.

“I think football and baseball are what’s in my future,” said Brown, a 6-3, 210-pound senior.

Brown started at forward last season for the City Section 3-A Division basketball champions but averaged less than 10 points a game. Because of the length of the season, Brown was forced to start baseball season as soon as basketball ended.

“I didn’t have as good a season at the plate as I’d liked,” said Brown, who played right field. “Not by my standards.”

Brown batted .333 with 20 runs batted in. A three-year starter for the baseball team, Brown was an All-Mid-Valley League selection.

The news was welcomed by football Coach Darryl Stroh--he also coaches the baseball team.

“Last year was tough on him,” Stroh said. “He never felt like he got it all together. If he takes the time off he should be that much better.”

Brown said he has received football scholarship offers from UCLA and Oklahoma and wants to play football and baseball in college.
