High School Winter Sports : Crespo’s Decisive Goal Extends Chaminade Streak to 31

Freshman Katie Crespo scored the winning goal to lift Chaminade to a 2-1 victory over Marymount in a Sunshine League girls’ soccer match at Chaminade Junior High on Thursday.

The win extended Chaminade’s unbeaten streak in league matches to 31.

Marymount led until a goal by Chaminade sophomore Carla Coppa tied the score, 1-1.

Chaminade improved to 8-3, 5-0 in league play. Marymount dropped to 4-4, 3-3.

Alemany 2, Hart 0--Sondra Shatkin and Shannon Lambert both scored goals to pace Alemany (13-3-3, 1-0-1).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Alemany 2, St. John Bosco 1--Vince Ferry and Bill Florez each scored goals for Alemany in the Del Rey League match at St. John Bosco.

Florez scored with 12 minutes remaining to breaks a 1-1 tie. Alemany is 13-3-2, 3-0-1 in league play and in sole possession of first place. St. John Bosco is 0-3-1 in league play.

Hart 4, Burroughs 1--Rick Kempf scored two goals in the Foothill League match at Hart. Jerry Miller and Dave Toledo added goals for Hart (11-3-0, 5-1-0).

Moorpark 2, Carpinteria 0--Danny Woolard scored on an assist from Juan Garza and Hein Ho added another goal for Moorpark in the Tri-Valley League match at Carpinteria.

Moorpark improved to 9-4-1, 4-0. Carpinteria fell to 3-2 in league play.

WRESTLING

Chaminade 48, Crespi 27--In a nonleague match, Chaminade raised its dual match record to 3-3 by recording seven pins.

Steve Rosen (heavyweight), Justin Stark (177), Felix Goodson (156), Sandy Hayes (148), Guy Purse (140), Chris Hayes (134) and Frank Conley (107) all recorded falls for Chaminade.

Start raised his overall record to 13-0. Goodson improved to 8-1 this season.

Harvard 72, Montclair Prep 5--Richard Shin (100 pounds), Sam Shin (121), Eric Seivers (128), Tony Choi (140), Robert Rhodes (156), Oscar Rodriguez (167), Kevin Newman (177), Rick Farrel (heavyweight) all recorded falls for Harvard.

Harvard raised its record to 4-0, 1-0 in Santa Fe League play.

Alemany 46, Faith Baptist 21--Louis Carmona, who finished second in the Southern Section 1-A Division last year at 100 pounds, recorded a pin at 107 pounds to lead the Indians.

Alemany improved to 8-5, 2-0 in Santa Fe League play with the league victory at Faith Baptist.

Gary Olacsi (167 pounds), Adam Wardlow (121), Doug McCom (134), David Wardlow (147), Robert Gahgberg (156) and Robert Tindall (193) recorded falls for Alemany.
