Holst Moves Up at Bolsa Grande

Bill Holst, the offensive coordinator for Bolsa Grande High School’s football team for the past four years, has been named the school’s varsity football coach.

Al Hall, the school’s athletic director, said Holst, 29, was offered the job Monday. He will replace Greg Shadid, who resigned last month after compiling a 34-34 record at Bolsa Grande and winning the Central Conference championship in 1986.

Holst, 29, will inherit a team different from the one that averaged 40 points a game last season. Only five starters are expected to return next season.

Holst teaches physical education at Bolsa Grande and also serves as the girls’ athletic director and the boys’ track coach.

A former Huntington Beach High School quarterback, Holst graduated from high school in 1976 and played football at Golden West College for two years. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1981 and served as an assistant coach in Flagstaff, Ariz., and at Garden Grove High before coming to Bolsa Grande.
