Junior right-hander Lee Cusy had 14 strikeouts, and Leffingwell Christian High School of Norwalk took advantage of five Pasadena Poly errors en route to a 4-1 victory and the Southern Section Small Schools baseball title Friday at Blair Field in Long Beach.

Cusy gave up a walk and a double in the first inning, leading to the Pasadena Poly run, then settled down, striking out 13 of the next 20 batters he faced.

“I felt a little stiff, but after the first inning I broke loose,” said Cusy, who improved to 9-1. “I didn’t think anyone could stop me.”

Leffingwell Christian (25-1) scored two runs in the second inning on two walks, a wild pitch and two errors. The Lions scored two in the sixth with a bunt single, a passed ball, a walk and an error.

Pasadena Poly starter Schuyler Hollingsworth pitched well at times, striking out four and allowing only three hits, but he gave up seven walks. That, coupled with the five errors, was Pasadena Poly’s undoing.
