American Legion Baseball : Chavez Takes Care of Business for Sun Valley

Sun Valley’s Eddie Chavez pulled double duty in his team’s 3-2 win over Van Nuys-Notre Dame on Tuesday. Chavez pitched Sun Valley to the win and also drove in the winning run.

One out after Abel Trujillo’s leadoff double in the seventh, Chavez, a right-handed reliever, singled home Trujillo.

Chavez (1-1) pitched the final three innings, striking out three, walking two and allowing one hit. Starter Mario Gomez allowed one hit in four innings.

Camarillo 17, Conejo 6--Conejo (4-2) jumped to a 3-0 lead when Camarillo left-hander Darren Spiller walked the first six batters of the first inning, but Camarillo still managed to raise its record to 9-0 with a 12-hit attack in a District 16 game at Rio Mesa High.

Woodland Hills (W) 10, Reseda 8--Steve Smith had four hits and drove in four runs--including two on a two-out double in the seventh--as West improved to 10-2.

North Hollywood 10, Reseda-Cleveland 9--Harry Marks and Danny Spector had back-to-back squeeze bunts in the bottom of the seventh to lift North Hollywood (3-8).

Woodland Hills (E) 8, West Hills 4--Trailing, 4-2, in the fifth, Ceo Wimmer, Chris Ingelhart and Dan Glassman all homered in a six-run outburst to lead East (8-3).
