Diamond Bar High outfielder Jim Edmonds, who helped lead the Brahmas to the CIF Southern Section 5-A Division baseball title June 4, has been named co-most valuable player in the division along with Scott Sharts of Simi Valley.

Edmonds, a 6-1, 190-pound senior, led the Brahmas with a .548 batting average with 6 home runs and 44 runs batted in. He also posted an impressive 4-1 pitching record and 3.47 earned-run average with 57 strikeouts in 40 innings.

He finished with 57 hits as a senior to tie Tom McKay of Montclair Prep (1981) and Jeff Cirillo of Providence (1987) for the all-time single-season record.

Edmonds was joined on the All 5-A Division first team by teammate Tony Darden, a senior pitcher and first baseman. Darden posted a 6-2 record and 2.66 earned-run average as a pitcher and batted .494 with 28 runs batted in.

Dan Schrum, director of the Mt. San Antonio College Relays, has been named president of the Southern California Assn. of the Athletics Congress, the national governing organization for track and field.

The 41-year-old Schrum said he is looking forward to the position, which will run through June of 1990. “I’m excited about it,” the Diamond Bar resident said. “The sport has a long way to go and I’m ready for the challenge.”
