The final score might not seem impressive but a look at the statistics shows the extent of San Fernando High’s domination of El Camino Real on Wednesday night at San Fernando.

San Fernando (8-3) limited El Camino Real to 4 yards in offense and 2 first downs, 1 by way of penalty, in a 16-0 victory over the Conquistadores (4-7) in a City Section 4-A Division quarterfinal match-up.

The win moves San Fernando to the semifinals next week against Banning, a 41-24 winner over Fairfax.

El Camino Real completed no passes in the game and ran only 14 plays in the second half, excluding 2 punts.

“They just manhandled us,” El Camino Real co-Coach Mike Maio said. “That’s my job to get the offense going and I didn’t do it.”

Said San Fernando Coach Tom Hernandez: “We have the best defense in the City.”

San Fernando gained 242 yards on a slick and muddy field. Quarterback Michael Wynn, who completed 10 of 19 passes for 138 yards, threw second-half touchdown passes to senior Sean Williams (27 yards, third quarter) and senior Eddie Carrillo (4 yards, fourth quarter).

Andrew Munoz booted a 20-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to give the Tigers a 3-0 halftime lead.

Wynn’s touchdown pass to Williams with 5 minutes to play in the third quarter was Williams’ 54th career reception, making him the Tigers’ all-time leader. He finished with 5 receptions for 64 yards.

Safety Howard McCrary also entered the San Fernando record book with his ninth interception, a single-season record.
